Bear Creek’s history

Bear Creek is a small northern settlement in northwest Saskatchewan, on Highway 155 roughly midway between Buffalo Narrows to the south and La Loche to the north. It takes its name from Bear Creek, which flows south from Linvall Lake and Palmbere Lake into Peter Pond Lake.

The community began to take shape after Highway 155 was built in the 1960s, when several families from La Loche came and built homes along the new road. Today it is an unincorporated northern settlement in the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District, near the junction of Highway 909, which leads east to Turnor Lake.

A second Bear Creek once existed in the Qu'Appelle District of southern Saskatchewan. It had a post office that opened on June 10, 1935, and closed on June 15, 1963.
